Terms of use
Draft: to be approved by the Trust
Who runs this site
The MERI Alumni Trust runs this site. It is run by alumni volunteers. It is not a website of the Indian Maritime University or of any of its campuses. When you use the site, you accept these terms and the privacy notice.
The figures and the history
The corpus figures come from the Trust’s ledger when you open a page. The figures before October 2025 are brought forward from the old website. The “interest a year” figures use an assumed rate and are estimates, not promises. The history comes from public sources, listed on the about page. We correct mistakes when we learn of them.
Applying for a scholarship
- Give true and complete information, and upload only your own, genuine documents.
- The rules of each cycle (dates, who can apply, the documents, the scoring) are on the scholarship page. The Trust sets them for each cycle.
- Applying does not guarantee a grant. The decisions of the panel and the Trust are final. A false statement ends the application, and the Trust can take back a grant given on false information.
Giving
- A gift is voluntary. It goes into the fund of the grant you choose.
- A gift counts when it reaches the Trust’s bank account and the treasurer matches it. Then we send a receipt.
- We return a gift only if it was made by mistake (for example, twice, or the wrong amount). Write to us within 30 days.
- The Trust is registered under sections 12A and 80G of the Income-tax Act, 1961. The footer shows the registration numbers.
- The Trust does not hold the registration that Indian law requires for foreign gifts (FCRA). So it cannot accept a gift from a foreign citizen, from an NRE account, or in a foreign currency.
